Our Story
Christ Our Hope Seventh-day Adventist Church is a vibrant community of believers established through the power of evangelism, prayer, and God’s providence. Our history is a testimony of faith, perseverance, and divine guidance.
Our Beginning
In June 1984, an evangelistic campaign was organized at Old Stop-North Kaneshie under the auspices of the Bubiashie SDA Church. The campaign was led by Pastor Dr. W. S. Whaley, assisted by Pastor Dr. Hammond, both from the United States of America. To the glory of God, thirty (30) precious souls were baptized at the end of the meetings.
While some joined nearby churches like Bubiashie and Odorkor, a committed group remained, and their dedication gave birth to what we now know as Christ Our Hope SDA Church. Among these pioneers were: Audrey Buckman, Loenora Nortey, Patience Mensah and her mother Mrs. Mensah, Victoria Ankrah, David Amarkwei, Richard Ekow Nunoo, Christiana Addo (Maa T), and Godfred Osae. Of these, Maa T and Mr. Godfred Osae are still active members today.
Early Growth and Support
After the campaign, Elders Boakye Boateng (Elder K), Charles Kuma-Korante, and Kwaku Boadu Darkwa from Bubiashie were assigned to nurture the new congregation. They were later joined by committed believers from Hansen Road SDA Church, such as Jonathan Botchway, Arnold Sowah, Elder J. K. Latrami, and Madam Salomey Lamptey, who sacrificed their own church membership to support the new fellowship.
The name “Christ Our Hope” was adopted from the theme of that memorable campaign, serving as a lasting reminder of the event that gave birth to our church. Worship initially began at the Parents Experimental Preparatory School (PEPS) in 1984.
In 1985, a local campaign at Ayigbe Town, led by Elder Boakye Boateng, added ten new members, including the late Mr. Robert Lamptey, who later served faithfully as Head Deacon.
Challenges and Providence
In 1987, the church was ejected from PEPS, but God provided another place through Elder Charles Kuma-Korante, where worship continued for nearly two years. Later, through divine intervention and the generosity of Mr. Webb, landlord of the PEPS property, the church was offered temporary land to worship on. This became our worship center until 2018.
Despite challenges in acquiring permanent land, including a failed attempt in 1995, the Lord opened doors in 2009 when, through the guidance of Elder Patrick Asare Adjei, the church acquired the current site. With the support of members, the South Ghana Conference (now Accra City Conference), and faithful leaders, the project to build a permanent sanctuary began.
Building Our Church
In 2011, under the presidency of Pr. Anthony Kessie and with the support of Pr. I. K. Donkor (then District Pastor), a sod-cutting ceremony was held. Construction began in 2012, led by Elder Frank Anim Akuffo and Elder Edmund Owusu.
Over the years, members past and present have sacrificed tirelessly through offerings, harvests, and special projects. In 2017, a loan facility from Heritage Fund helped push the project further, thanks to the stewardship of Mr. Reuben Nartey, our treasurer.
In 2018, during the Pentecost Campaign organized by the Accra West District, the church made the bold decision to permanently move into the new building. With joy and gratitude, we declared:
“EBENEZER – Thus far the Lord has brought us.”
Today
Christ Our Hope SDA Church continues to stand as a beacon of faith, hope, and love in North Kaneshie and beyond. Our church is more than a building—it is a family of believers united in Christ, dedicated to proclaiming the everlasting gospel, nurturing spiritual growth, and serving our community.
